    GEMTEC Limited (GEMTEC) was established in 1986 as a geotechnical engineering, materials testing, and hydrogeology firm. Today, GEMTEC is an employee-owned company with multiple offices and labs throughout Atlantic Canada, with more than 100 full-time engineers, scientists, technical personnel, and support staff. We have seven (7) offices in Atlantic Canada (Fredericton, Saint John, Moncton, Grand Falls, Bathurst, Halifax, and St. John’s) and operate one office in Ottawa. We have a total of 10 offices across Eastern and Atlantic Canada. Seven offices in Atlantic Canada (NB (5), NS, & NL), an office in Montreal, QC, and two offices in Ontario (Ottawa and Petawawa).     Role:

    GEMTEC is seeking an intermediate / senior geotechnical engineer with the ability to provide practical geotechnical engineering solutions for our clients. The successful candidate must be a strong technical resource for the team. An individual with a wide range of experience and the ability to make decisions will be very successful in our organization. The role will involve client interaction and a general requirement to supply and maintain client contact and business development initiatives.

    General Responsibilities:

    • Planning, management, and execution of geotechnical projects of various sizes and scopes, including subsurface investigation, design, and construction.
    • Perform design and analytical functions on projects involving slope/embankment stability, retaining walls, seepage and settlement analysis, and bearing capacity for shallow and deep foundations.
    • Support mining and civil based projects: dams, waste dumps and stockpiles, water management infrastructure, open pits.
    • Support field work at project sites across the province, and eastern Canada, as required.
    • Prepare detailed proposals, scopes of work, and budget estimates for geotechnical engineering projects.
    • Perform project management functions including budgeting, scheduling, and managing scopes of work.
    • Complete technical writing and review of proposals and project documents; prepare design drawings and specifications; develop construction and engineering cost estimates; prepare technical reports including recommendations.
    • Mentor and supervise junior / intermediate professional staff.
    • Develop and maintain strong client relationships, commit to ongoing business development efforts.
    • Collaboration with other GEMTEC offices, particularly for larger projects and other multi-disciplinary assignments.
    • Work as an integral team member in a multi-disciplinary environment.

    Knowledge / Experience:

    • The ideal candidate would be a highly versatile candidate with a minimum of a Bachelor degree in Geotechnical Engineering (Civil, Mining, or Geological Engineering programs may be suitable) from a recognized university.
    • Approximately 8-10 years or more of direct geotechnical engineering related experience (or combined graduate level study and working experience).
    • Experience in mining-related projects, rock mechanics, and dam designs and inspections in accordance with CDA requirements considered an asset.
    • Currently, or eligible to be, a Registered Professional Engineer with PEGNL.
    • Must be motivated to provide excellent client service and enjoy working in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
    • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills (English), strong organizational skills, able to manage and prioritize several assignments at one time with a view to delivery of quality products on time and on budget.
    • Driver’s license in good standing.
  • Senior Civil Engineer (Fredericton)

    Qualifications and Experience:

    • Currently registered, or has the ability to register, with a professional association as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in New Brunswick

    • Approximately 10 to 15 years of experience in civil engineering consulting
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Proven project management skills

    Roles and Responsibilities:

    The successful candidate will work in several areas of civil engineering, including:

    • Civil design
    • Transportation
    • Water, Sanitary, and Stormwater Design
    • Surveying
    • Project Management

    Specifically, day-to-day tasks would include:

    • Project management
    • Provide technical support to our civil technologists
    • Prepare detailed proposals, scope of work, and budget estimates for civil engineering projects
    • Client management; including sustaining relationships with existing clients and developing relationships with new clients for our growing company
    • Participation in developing and growing a team of scientists, technicians and engineers
    • Preparation and /or review of contract specifications, tender documents, and engineering drawings

  • Senior Civil Engineer (Moncton)

    • A minimum of 10 years of applicable experience in engineering consulting; exceptional individuals with lesser experience or in a related field (industry, academia, etc.) may also be considered

  • Civil Technologist/Technician (Grand Falls)

    GEMTEC is a local engineering consulting firm. As such, we strive to have employees that are multi-faceted and have a number of desirable skills. GEMTEC currently has an opening in Grand Falls for individuals who have experience in geotechnical and materials testing. The ideal candidate would be specially suited to working in our materials laboratory undertaking various soils analyses including sieve analysis, Proctors, and asphalt testing.

    Educational Requirements:

    • College Level Diploma is considered an asset
    • Training in and experience with soils/materials testing is required
    • Registered or eligible to become registered as a Civil Engineering Technologist (CET) is considered an asset

    Main Duties:

    • Laboratory testing of aggregates, soil, concrete and asphalt
    • Field testing and sampling of aggregates, soils, concrete, and asphalt
    • Assisting with compiling reports

    Experience and Skills:

    • 5+ years of experience in the engineering industry
    • Experience working in a materials testing laboratory
    • Familiarity and experience with both Marshall and Superpave Asphalt testing and mix designs
    • Experience with topographic surveying and field inspection will be considered an asset
    • Organizational skills are a critical asset
