  • Junior Field Technician/Technologist (Ottawa, ON)

    GEMTEC Consulting Engineers and Scientist Limited. is seeking applicants for the position of junior field technician/technologist in our Ottawa Location. Effective written and verbal communication skills along with the ability to work both independently or within a multi-disciplinary team are considered essential assets.

    Responsibilities will include:

    • Provide field testing and inspections for various projects including foundation inspections, compaction testing and concrete testing;
    • Conduct field surveying using total station and global positioning system (GPS);
    • Compile and tabulate technical data for use in technical reports.

    Successful candidates will have the following qualities/credentials:

    • "Team Player" capable of working both independently or as part of a larger team to complete assigned tasks;
    • Strong time management skills;
    • Excellent communication skills;
    • Willingness to travel throughout eastern Ontario and work in variable climatic conditions often for extended hours; possess ability to periodically lift heavy objects and navigate uneven terrain.

  • Intermediate / Senior Terrestrial Biologist

    GEMTEC is a growing firm with offices throughout Atlantic Canada and in Ottawa, and we are looking for a motivated and skilled Terrestrial Biologist to join our Team.     We currently have an opening for a fulltime Intermediate / Senior Terrestrial Biologist in the Atlantic Region. The successful candidate will have 8-10 years’ experience in the planning, design and delivery of terrestrial field sampling programs/surveys relative to the assessment of avifauna, wildlife, vegetation - including rare plants, aquatics, wetlands, species at risk etc.

    Educational & Experience Requirements:

    • Minimum - Completion of an undergraduate degree in related field(s)
    • Certified wetland delineator would be considered an asset
    • Experience with environmental field planning and execution of programs, 8&ndash10 years
    • Strong oral and written communication skills
    • Strong understanding of provincial and federal legislation relative to biological components
    • Knowledge and experience of provincial and federal environmental assessment processes

    Main Duties:

    • Producing detailed documentation of field conditions, measurements and observations

  • Materials Technologist (Halifax, NS)

    GEMTEC Consulting Engineers and Scientists Limited is a Maritime based firm with expertise in geotechnical, municipal, transportation, marine, mining, heavy civil, environmental management, and materials testing and inspection. GEMTEC provides services to a wide variety of clients across Atlantic Canada through our offices in Fredericton, Moncton, Saint John, Bathurst, Grand Falls and Halifax.

    GEMTEC has an immediate opening for a Materials Technologist, with 3 to 5 years of experience in our Halifax office. Duties will include but not be limited to compaction and concrete testing and construction inspection as required. Graduates of an accredited Civil Technology program will be given preference.   • Civil Technologist (Fredericton, NB)

    GEMTEC has an immediate opening for a Civil Technologist operating out of our Fredericton office. This motivated individual will provide support to our civil, geotechnical and environmental engineering divisions.

    Educational Requirements:

    • College Level Diploma
    • Training in field topographic surveying
    • Training in Civil 3D/AutoCAD and GIS is required
    • Training in soils/materials testing is an asset
    • Registered or eligible to become registered as a Civil Engineering Technologist (CET)

    Main Duties:

    • Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) using Civil 3D and AutoCAD
    • Assist in the materials testing laboratory
    • Provide GIS mapping for environmental monitoring programs
    • Assist with design and drafting for site development
    • Provide drawings for environmental studies and geotechnical reports

    Experience and Skills:

    • 5-10 years of experience in the engineering industry
    • At least 3 years of experience using CAD/GIS software is required
