Serge Bourque is currently GEMTEC’s President and CEO (2022-Present). He has been a shareholder since 2003, and actively involved with GEMTEC’s Executive Team and a Board Member since 2011.
Serge’s career with GEMTEC started from ‘the ground up’ as a summer student in our materials laboratory in Fredericton, which soon progressed into field testing and inspection. In 2002, Serge completed his master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering from the University of New Brunswick and accepted a full-time position with GEMTEC at our Moncton branch. With the support and technical guidance of senior leaders Serge excelled in the field of geotechnical engineering, enabling him to play a key role in numerous large scale geotechnical design projects throughout Ontario and Atlantic Canada. His areas of specialty included deep foundations, slope stabilization, retaining structures, highway embankments, and soft soils engineering for clients such as CN Rail, transportation authorities, and municipalities.
In 2013, Serge and his family relocated to Ottawa to manage GEMTEC’s newly acquired Houle Chevrier Engineering, a boutique engineering firm known for their technical excellence in the field of geotechnical and materials engineering across Eastern Ontario. In 2018, Serge relocated back to Moncton as VP Operations Atlantic East and was a key part of the VALRON Structural Engineers acquisition in 2019.
GEMTEC’s dynamic leadership team and positive culture have provided Serge with the perfect environment to continuously develop his technical and management skills.
